Bottled at a higher strength than the iconic 16 Year Old, the 8 Year Old showcases a younger, livelier, and more vibrant side of Lagavulin's legendary peated character.

Why was the 8 Year Old created?
Released to celebrate Lagavulin's 200th anniversary in 2016, the 8 Year Old was inspired by Alfred Barnard's 1886 tasting notes from his visit to the distillery — where he described a whisky of exactly this age and character.

How does it compare to Lagavulin 16?
The 8 Year Old is brighter, fresher, and more coastal — where the 16 Year Old delivers deeper, richer, more complex peat and dried fruit, the 8 Year Old is lively and invigorating, bottled at a higher 48% ABV.

Is Islay peat different from other regions?
Yes — Islay peat is coastal and rich in seaweed and marine organic matter, imparting a distinctive briny, medicinal, and smoky character unique to the island and unlike any other peated whisky region in Scotland.
